Hyderabad: Reaffirming that the welfare of police personnel remains a top priority, the Director General of Police (DGP) chaired a comprehensive review meeting of the Police Welfare Society and the Bhadrata & Arogya Bhadratha (Health Protection) Wing at the DGP Office. During the meeting, the DGP emphasized that police personnel work under immense pressure and stress while safeguarding society, making their welfare and that of their families a matter of utmost importance. Focus on Education & Family Welfare The DGP directed officials to strengthen welfare initiatives by: Increasing scholarships for meritorious children of police personnel. Providing enhanced coaching assistance for JEE and NEET aspirants. Expanding financial assistance through low-interest housing, personal, marriage, medical, and education loans, with loan limits increased up to ₹30 lakh for eligible personnel. Strengthening corpus insurance and grant-based welfare assistance for employees and their families. Health Protection Under EHS The meeting reviewed the implementation of the Employee Health Scheme (EHS), which has now integrated the earlier Arogya Bhadratha Scheme. 33,126 beneficiaries received medical treatment during 2025, with expenditure of ₹181.74 crore. 12,392 beneficiaries availed treatment up to June 2026, with ₹73.61 crore spent on healthcare services. The DGP noted that the scheme continues to provide quality healthcare support to serving personnel and their dependents. Insurance & Welfare Funds The meeting also reviewed the Group Personal Accidental Insurance Scheme, which provides financial security to the families of personnel who lose their lives while in service. Insurance coverage ranges from ₹5 lakh for police personnel to ₹25 lakh for IPS officers. It was also decided that revenue generated through police canteens and commercial complexes will be utilized to further strengthen welfare initiatives, including:. Children’s education, Competitive examination coaching. Marriage assistance .Welfare activities under the Young IPS (YIPS) initiatives
Digital Welfare Management System
To improve transparency and efficiency, the DGP directed the implementation of a Digital Welfare Management System, under which all welfare records—from the DGP Office to district units—will be fully computerized, enabling real-time monitoring, faster processing, and transparent delivery of benefits. Strengthening Democratic Functioning The DGP also noted that Police Association Elections have been ordered after 14 years, expressing confidence that democratic functioning within the associations would further strengthen welfare initiatives and employee representation.
Support for Police Stations
Recalling his recent visits to various districts, the DGP observed that station maintenance bills and other routine operational expenses had remained pending for the previous year. He informed that the issue was taken up with the Finance Department, and the pending funds have now been sanctioned, providing much-needed financial relief to police stations across the state.
Concluding the meeting, the DGP reiterated that every welfare rupee must reach the eligible employee fairly, transparently, and without delay, reaffirming his commitment to improving the welfare, financial security, healthcare, and quality of life of every police officer and their family.
