CityLightBuzz: Hyderabad. Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Dr. C.V. Anand attended the closing ceremony of the 11th All India Police Judo Cluster Games as the Chief Guest in Hyderabad. The prestigious national sporting event was hosted by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and brought together police personnel from across the country.
The tournament featured competitions in five martial arts disciplines—Judo, Karate, Taekwondo, Wushu, and Pencak Silat. A total of 36 state police teams along with teams from various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), including the CRPF, BSF, ITBP, and other forces, participated in the event.
Nearly 1,600 participants from different parts of India took part in the games, making it one of the largest sporting events for police personnel. Telangana Police played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth conduct of the tournament by providing accommodation, transportation, security, and other logistical support to the participants.
Addressing the gathering, DGP Dr. C.V. Anand highlighted the importance of sports in policing, stating that physical fitness, discipline, teamwork, and mental resilience are essential qualities for every police officer. He said such national-level competitions not only identify talented athletes within the police forces but also strengthen coordination, camaraderie, and mutual
understanding among different police organizations across the country.
Recalling his own sporting journey, the DGP shared that he participated in the All India Police Tennis Championship in 2004, where his team emerged as team champions, while he reached the semi-finals in the individual event. He also mentioned that he continues to participate in the All India Police Cricket and Golf tournaments, describing them as highly competitive and professionally organized.
Speaking about India’s sporting ecosystem, Dr. C.V. Anand observed that while the country has immense talent, it still needs to significantly strengthen its sports infrastructure, training systems, and overall support framework to consistently win medals at international competitions. He stressed that greater investment and long-term planning are essential for India to emerge as a global sporting powerhouse.
The event concluded with the presentation of awards to the winners, celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship, discipline, and excellence among police personnel from across the nation.
