CityLightBuzz: Concern Over 74 Lakh ‘Uncollectable’ Votes; District-Wise Meetings Planned After Draft Voter ListBRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) reviewed the party’s activities related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls at a meeting with the BRS SIR Committee at Telangana Bhavan.During the meeting, KTR sought details from committee members about the party’s field-level programmes, problems being faced by voters and measures being taken to prevent the deletion of eligible voters’ names from the electoral rolls.Concern Over ‘Uncollectable’ Votes .Speaking to the media later, KTR expressed concern over the ongoing SIR process in Telangana. He said there were around 3.39 crore voters in the state before the revision process began.
According to information available to the party regarding the electoral process, around 73–74 lakh voters have been classified as ‘uncollectable’, with no response received from them so far. KTR said the large number of such voters was a matter of concern, particularly because some of these names could potentially be removed from the electoral rolls.He also claimed that there were reported anomalies involving around 60 lakh votes, and said the party was closely monitoring the situation.
BRS to Protect Every Eligible Vote.KTR stressed that not a single eligible voter should be unfairly deprived of the right to vote.He said the Election Commission is expected to release the draft electoral roll and that BRS has decided to conduct district-wise meetings after its publication to assess the situation and determine the next course of action.The party will examine voter-related issues at the local level and take appropriate steps wherever eligible voters face difficulties.Legal Action Under Consideration. KTR said the BRS leadership has already consulted the party’s Legal Cell and legal experts regarding the SIR process. Discussions were held on possible legal measures to assist eligible voters whose names may be deleted, along with party-level programmes and ways to strengthen the party’s field machinery to support affected voters.He said the party would explore all available legal and organisational mechanisms to protect the rights of eligible voters. Meetings Planned on August 13 and 14. KTR informed that BRS is planning to conduct meetings on August 13 and 14 to discuss the SIR-related issues and formulate an action plan. He said the final details of the meetings and programmes would be announced after discussions with BRS President K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). KTR reiterated that the BRS field-level machinery would remain alert throughout the process and provide necessary assistance to voters facing problems. He said the party would continue to monitor the SIR process closely and take every possible step to ensure that eligible voters are not unjustly removed from the electoral rolls.
