Journalist Housing Pattas and Health Cards Likely Soon: G. Mukunda Reddy
CityLightBuzz: Hyderabad, August 19: Telangana Media Academy Chairman K. Srinivas Reddy said photojournalists are the “lifeblood” of newspapers and play a crucial role in documenting important events and preserving history for future generations.
The 187th World Photography Day celebrations were held grandly on Wednesday at Desoddharaka Bhavan, Basheerbagh, Hyderabad, under the aegis of the Telangana State Photojournalists Association. A “Best News Photo Competition 2026” and a photo exhibition were also organised as part of the event.
Telangana Media Academy Chairman K. Srinivas Reddy and State Information Department Commissioner G. Mukunda Reddy attended the programme as chief guests. ‘A Photograph Can Speak a Thousand Words’
Speaking on the occasion, K. Srinivas Reddy said the Telangana State Photojournalists Association has been organising World Photography Day celebrations for nearly two and a half decades. He said, “A photographer is not merely a person who clicks a camera; a photographer is a historian who preserves history.”
He noted that even when an event is described through extensive written reports, a powerful photograph can bring the incident alive before the eyes of the public.
Photojournalists capture public issues, natural disasters, accidents, political developments, social movements, the struggles of the poor and stories of achievement, he said.
He praised photojournalists for reaching incident locations and bringing real situations before the public, often without worrying about their own safety.
K. Srinivas Reddy also suggested that the government revive photography awards named after prominent personalities to encourage professionals in the field. He stressed the need for the Telangana Media Academy to organise special programmes to promote photography and photojournalism.

State Information Department Commissioner G. Mukunda Reddy said a good photograph can make society think and can also prompt authorities to respond to public issues. He said photography plays an important role in bringing the problems of victims and affected communities to the attention of the world.
“Time passes and people change, but a great photograph preserves that moment forever,” he said.
Describing photographers as the silent witnesses of society and permanent witnesses to history, Mukunda Reddy said the government is positively considering issues concerning housing pattas, health cards and awards for journalists.He said the Media Academy has already examined issues related to registration and housing societies concerning journalists’ housing pattas and brought them to the government’s attention.
As the housing issue involves government policy, the process will be taken forward in phases once the government takes a decision, he said.
Mukunda Reddy further stated that journalists are likely to receive health cards this month. Officials are making arrangements for the cards, and steps are being taken to provide them to journalists after government employees receive their cards. Association Members Attend
