CityLightBuzz: Hyderabad, August 21, BJP Telangana State President N. Ramchander Rao on Thursday urged the Congress to stop what he described as “unnecessary politics” over the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) withholding political clearance for Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s proposed visit to the United States.
Speaking to the media at the BJP state office in Hyderabad, Rao clarified that there was no political angle behind the MEA’s decision. He said the Union Government had already granted permission to the delegation of officials accompanying the Chief Minister to travel to the US and hold meetings related to investments and agreements.
Rao explained that when Chief Ministers or Ministers undertake foreign visits, the Ministry of External Affairs examines several factors before granting political clearance. These include the official purpose and necessity of the visit, the background of the inviting organisations, the designation and level of participants, international protocol, diplomatic considerations, security arrangements and applicable FCRA regulations.
Citing previous instances, Rao recalled that during the UPA government in 2012, the Centre had rejected foreign travel proposals of then Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to the US and Israel, as well as then Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda’s proposed visit to Thailand.
He also alleged that Congress MPs and leaders had previously written letters seeking to prevent a US visa from being granted to Narendra Modi, who was then the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
Rao cautioned the Congress against politicising the present issue and pointed out that the Centre had not created any hurdles when Revanth Reddy travelled abroad on previous occasions. He maintained that the current decision was taken strictly in accordance with established regulations and procedural norms.
