Hyderabad, August 27, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Telangana unit has welcomed the prompt response of the State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) following a representation submitted by BJP Election Commission Affairs Committee Chairman Marri Shashidhar Reddy regarding alleged irregularities in the electoral roll process in Khammam. As a follow-up to the party’s formal complaint submitted via email, Marri Shashidhar Reddy met Telangana CEO Sudarshan Reddy and discussed the concerns raised by the BJP.
Following the meeting, the CEO has deputed Additional CEO Dr. A. Venkateshwara Reddy to visit Khammam on Saturday, August 29, to conduct an on-ground inquiry into the allegations concerning the treatment of BJP Booth Level Agent (BLA-1) V. Rajesh of the Khammam Assembly Constituency.
Background of the Complaint
The BJP had raised concerns regarding the alleged selective omission of the name of its BLA-1, V. Rajesh, from the draft electoral rolls. The party has alleged that the action was retaliatory and linked to representations made by the BLA-1 regarding the relocation of four polling stations.
The polling stations in question are Polling Stations Nos. 221, 222, 223 and 224, currently located at Urdu School, Khammam Fort.
According to the BJP, the BLA-1 had sought relocation of these polling stations citing difficulties faced by voters, including a narrow approach road and inadequate space around the existing polling location.
The party has further alleged that the local administration had earlier submitted a report disputing these concerns and claimed that the report was prepared under political pressure.
BJP Welcomes Election Department’s Intervention
Welcoming the decision to send a senior election official to Khammam, Marri Shashidhar Reddy and the BJP state leadership said the inquiry would help establish the facts on the ground.
The party reiterated that electoral neutrality, transparency and the integrity of voter rolls are essential to ensuring free and fair elections.
The BJP said it expects the inquiry to objectively examine the allegations and take appropriate action against any officials found to have violated administrative neutrality or electoral procedures.
The party also expressed confidence that the Election Commission authorities would ensure that legitimate voter concerns and representations by political parties and Booth Level Agents are handled fairly and transparently.
