BJP Telangana President Accuses Congress Government of Ignoring Student Issues; Announces Statewide Agitation
Hyderabad, September 7, 2026: Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao said the BJP would continue its agitation until the pending fee reimbursement dues of students are released, accusing the Congress government of failing to address the issue. His remarks came at a media conference held at the BJP state office following the party’s “Chalo Assembly” protest.
Rao said the BJP had been raising the fee reimbursement issue for several days and alleged that the state government was not responding to the concerns of students. He said the party had collected representations and signatures from around eight lakh students and had sought an appointment with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to submit them, but alleged that the Chief Minister did not respond.
BJP Questions Denial of Permission for Protests
Rao alleged that BJP leaders were stopped at the Secretariat gates when they attempted to submit the student representations to the Chief Secretary. He further claimed that the party initially sought permission to hold a student meeting and a protest at Dharna Chowk, but permission was subsequently denied.
Following the denial of permission for the proposed protest, the BJP gave a call for a “Chalo Assembly” programme to highlight the fee reimbursement and other public issues. The party has claimed that around ₹15,000 crore in fee reimbursement dues are pending.
Ramchander Rao Criticises Congress and BRS
Rao alleged that the Congress and BRS were diverting public attention from major issues, particularly fee reimbursement dues and the Section 22-A land issue.
He alleged that private lands had been included in the 22-A prohibited list during the previous BRS government and claimed that the issue remained unresolved despite the introduction of the Bhu Bharati system under the present government.
Rao also criticised the political exchanges inside the Assembly, saying that wearing black or white clothes and trading allegations should not replace meaningful discussion on public issues.
At the same time, he said the BJP had condemned inappropriate remarks made against the Assembly Speaker, stressing that the dignity of the Speaker’s chair must be respected.
‘Who Will Raise People’s Issues?’
Questioning the functioning of the Assembly, Rao asked who would raise the concerns of the people if opposition leaders were not given adequate opportunities to speak.
He alleged that BRS and Congress were engaging in political confrontations while important issues affecting students and landowners were not receiving sufficient attention.
The BJP has also demanded a detailed discussion on the Section 22-A prohibited lands issue and has previously sought a judicial inquiry into the matter.
BJP Claims Large-Scale Detentions
Rao alleged that more than 1,000 BJP leaders and workers were arrested or detained during the party’s Assembly protest and that preventive house arrests were carried out in several districts.
The BJP had earlier alleged that several of its leaders and workers were injured during police action. Reports confirmed that Ramchander Rao and BJYM state president Ganesh Kunde were among those detained during the protest near the Assembly.
Statewide Agitation Planned
Rao said the BJP would continue its campaign both inside and outside the Assembly. He said BJP MLAs would raise the issues strategically inside the House, while party workers would continue public protests outside.
The BJP has also sought an appointment with the Governor to present the students’ concerns and plans to submit representations to District Collectors across Telangana. Rao said further protest programmes would be organised if necessary.
He added that the party’s national leadership had sought a report on the developments in Telangana and that the state unit had briefed the central leadership.
“The BJP movement will not stop here,” Rao said, reiterating that the party would continue its campaign until the pending fee reimbursement dues were released to students.
