Telangana Strengthens Its Position as a Global Life Sciences and Technology Hub
Hyderabad: Telangana’s life sciences ecosystem received a major boost with the inauguration of MSD’s new Technology Centre in Hyderabad. State IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu inaugurated the centre and described the development as an important milestone in Hyderabad’s evolving life sciences journey.Speaking about the development, Sridhar Babu said it was a pleasure to inaugurate the new technology centre of MSD, which he described as the world’s fourth-largest life sciences company. He said the investment reflects growing global confidence in Hyderabad’s life sciences and technology ecosystem.
The Minister highlighted that Telangana has developed a strong end-to-end life sciences ecosystem comprising more than 2,000 companies operating across areas including APIs, bulk drugs, generics, CDMO, vaccines, medical research, clinical research and drug discovery.
Focus on Innovation and Advanced R&D
Sridhar Babu said that over the past two years, the Telangana government has been building on this strong foundation, with a renewed focus on discovery, innovation, advanced research and development, and global capability creation.
He noted that Hyderabad has welcomed several leading global companies, including Amgen, Eli Lilly, Bristol Myers Squibb, Sanofi, Align Technology and Zoetis, further strengthening the city’s position as an international destination for life sciences and technology.
According to the Minister, MSD’s Technology Centre is a natural fit within Hyderabad’s expanding ecosystem.
Genome Valley Meets Hyderabad’s Technology Corridor
Sridhar Babu emphasized that Hyderabad has a unique advantage by bringing together two powerful strengths — Genome Valley and its world-class life sciences capabilities, along with one of India’s largest technology corridors.
The close proximity of science, technology infrastructure and skilled talent creates a strong environment for global companies to develop innovative solutions for markets across the world, he said.
Next Phase of Hyderabad’s Growth
The Minister said Telangana is now entering the next phase of Hyderabad’s growth by building upon its established manufacturing and scientific strengths and accelerating innovation and discovery.
He stated that the government is strengthening this convergence through the Next-Gen Life Sciences Policy 2026–30,
aimed at creating an environment conducive to advanced research, innovation and global investments.
Sridhar Babu further said Telangana is expected to reach 100 Global Capability Centres (GCCs) during the current year, building on the 75-plus GCCs established last year. These developments are expected to create around 4 lakh direct and indirect high-value employment opportunities.
Welcoming MSD to Telangana, the Minister said the company’s new Technology Centre further reinforces Hyderabad’s emergence as a global hub where life sciences, technology, research and talent converge to create solutions for the world.
