CityLightBuzz: New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, was detained by the Delhi Police on Tuesday while leading a Congress protest near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence at Lok Kalyan Marg. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and several opposition leaders were also detained during the demonstration.
The protest was organized by the Congress to demand accountability over the alleged police action against students protesting the NEET paper leak issue and to seek the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Protesters staged a sit-in outside the Prime Minister’s residence, accusing the Centre of failing to address students’ concerns.
As the protesters approached the high-security zone near the Prime Minister’s residence, Delhi Police intervened and began removing demonstrators. Rahul Gandhi and several Congress MPs were physically escorted away and detained. Television visuals showed security personnel carrying some leaders to police vehicles during the operation.
The Congress alleged that Rahul Gandhi was manhandled during the detention and later released photographs showing him with a nosebleed, claiming it resulted from the police action. Delhi Police removed the protesters from the area as part of security measures around the Prime Minister’s residence.
During the protest, Rahul Gandhi questioned the government’s response to the NEET controversy and alleged that students protesting for justice were being suppressed instead of being heard. The Congress reiterated its demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and called for justice for students affected by the examination controversy
