HYDRAA Tightens Vigil: CCTV Surveillance to Protect Lakes

  • Action initiated to prevent encroachments and illegal dumping.

  • 900 cameras installed for 24/7 continuous monitoring.

HYDRAA (Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency) has established a robust surveillance system to safeguard lakes from illegal activities. To put an end to attempts of land grabbing and unauthorized filling of lake beds with soil, CCTV cameras have been strategically installed near various water bodies.

Highlights of the Initiative:

  • Centralized Monitoring: All cameras are linked to the central server at the HYDRAA office. This allows officials to monitor activities at lake sites in real-time.

  • Official Launch: The CCTV surveillance system was formally inaugurated on Monday by HYDRAA Commissioner, Shri A.V. Ranganath.

  • Strengthening Protection: While Lake Protection Teams are already on the ground to prevent encroachments, the addition of CCTV cameras provides an extra layer of high-tech security.

  • Immediate Action: If construction waste is dumped or if anyone attempts to fill a lake for encroachment, the Control Room will identify the culprits immediately. In cases where vehicles are used for dumping soil, their details will be tracked, and the nearest Lake Protection Team will be alerted instantly.

  • Integrated Command: The surveillance feeds are also connected to the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) in Banjara Hills, ensuring multi-level monitoring.

Scale of Operations:

Commissioner A.V. Ranganath stated that 900 CCTV cameras have been installed across 264 lakes to ensure comprehensive coverage.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by HYDRAA Additional Director Shri Warla Papaiah, Additional Commissioner Shri R. Sudarshan, and other senior officials
