CityLightBuzz: Telangana Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Friday reaffirmed the Congress government’s commitment to protecting the voting rights of every eligible citizen during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.Addressing a Hyderabad Parliament-level SIR review meeting at Gandhi Bhavan, the Minister said the Telangana Government has already initiated the Family Identification Card (Kutumba Gurthimpu Card) programme without delay and urged citizens to cooperate with the ongoing voter verification process.
Ponnam Prabhakar appealed to voters to submit their Enumeration Forms by producing any of the valid supporting documents required by the Election Commission to ensure that their names remain on the electoral rolls. The Minister stated that Congress party leaders and workers are actively coordinating with Election Commission officials and Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to help eligible voters complete the verification process. He emphasized that the party is taking every possible measure to ensure that not a single eligible vote is lost.
He alleged that some political parties might be attempting to remove voters from the electoral rolls for political reasons, but asserted that the Congress Party, as a democratic organization, is committed to safeguarding every eligible voter’s constitutional right. Ponnam Prabhakar said the review meeting at Gandhi Bhavan was organized to assess the progress of the SIR exercise across the Hyderabad Parliamentary constituency and to strengthen coordination among party leaders and election volunteers.He further noted that Congress leaders across Hyderabad are working together with a common objective of protecting democracy and ensuring that no eligible voter is deprived of the right to vote during the revision process.
The Minister called upon party workers to continue extending full cooperation to Election Commission officials and to assist genuine voters in completing the verification process in a timely manner, thereby ensuring a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.
