Telangana Media Academy Chairman K. Srinivas Reddy said that renowned photojournalist Raghu Rai is a pride of India.
A memorial meeting in honor of Padma Shri awardee Raghu Rai was organized on Thursday at Desoddharaka Bhavan, Bashirbagh, Hyderabad, under the leadership of the Telangana State Photo Journalists Association (TSPJA). The program was conducted under the chairmanship of TSPJA President Anumalla Gangadhar.
Prominent personalities including Telangana Media Academy Chairman K. Srinivas Reddy, IJU Secretary General Soma Sundar, IJU Steering Committee member K. Satyanarayana, TUWJ President K. Virahat Ali, General Secretary K. Ramnarayana, Deputy General Secretary K. Ramulu, senior photojournalist D. Ravinder Reddy, and TSPJA State General Secretary K. Narahari participated in the event.
The dignitaries paid rich tributes by garlanding the portrait of Padma Shri Raghu Rai.
Speaking on the occasion, K. Srinivas Reddy praised Raghu Rai as a legendary photojournalist who introduced India to the world through his powerful photographs. He stated that photographs inspire future generations with meaningful thoughts and perspectives.
He highlighted that Raghu Rai earned worldwide recognition through his iconic photographs covering Indian culture, lifestyle, the Bangladesh war, the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, and personalities such as the Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa, and Indira Gandhi.
Soma Sundar recalled that Raghu Rai’s photographs had been published by numerous international publications and praised the natural realism reflected in his work. He said Raghu Rai had a unique ability to visually narrate moments as if they were unfolding before the viewer’s eyes.
K. Virahat Ali stated that Raghu Rai was the one photojournalist who showed a new direction to Indian photojournalism.
K. Ramnarayana described Raghu Rai as a guiding force for photojournalists across the country and appreciated his courage, dedication, and ability to capture defining moments through photography.
Several members of the Telangana State Photo Journalists Association, including vice presidents T. Kishore Singh and P. Rammurthy, joint secretary B.H.M.K. Gandhi, treasurer K. Anil Kumar, executive members P. Mohana Chari, MD Aleemuddin, G. Vasanth Kumar, Nakka Srinivas, A. Mahesh Kumar, P. Hari Krishna, and N. Shiva Kumar, also attended the memorial gathering.
