Telangana Tribal Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar stated that the state government is moving forward with a comprehensive action plan to transform the Mahua flower (Ippa Puvvu), traditionally associated with tribal livelihoods, into a major source of economic empowerment for tribal communities.

Speaking at a workshop and PowerPoint presentation on the implementation of the “Mahua Flower Project” held at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat, the Minister said the government is prioritizing the economic development of tribal women, farmers, youth, and particularly vulnerable tribal groups.

The workshop was attended by Panchayat Raj Minister Seethakka and Rajya Sabha MP V. Narender Reddy along with officials, experts, and tribal welfare representatives.

Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar explained that the Mahua flower plays a vital role in tribal culture, food traditions, and the rural economy. The government is now exploring its use beyond traditional consumption by developing food products, medicinal uses, value-added industries, and rural micro-enterprises.

He said the government plans to establish scientific collection, storage, processing, and marketing systems in tribal areas to ensure sustainable income for tribal families. Tribal women’s groups, self-help groups, and youth organizations will be actively involved to generate employment opportunities at the village level.

The Minister emphasized that the government aims to protect tribal rights over forest resources while simultaneously improving their living standards through sustainable development policies.

Panchayat Raj Minister Seethakka highlighted the commercial potential of Mahua flowers and seeds. She said products such as laddus, natural health foods, herbal teas, millet-based snacks, natural sweeteners, and Mahua seed oil could create large-scale employment opportunities for tribal women.

She suggested establishing mini processing units in every tribal village and promoting “Tribal Natural Food Brands” through modern branding, packaging, and e-commerce marketing to target national and international markets.

Rajya Sabha MP V. Narender Reddy stressed that the Mahua project should move beyond discussions and be implemented effectively at the ground level. He praised Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar for his commitment to tribal economic empowerment and noted that around 2.5 lakh tribal and Adivasi families could benefit from Mahua-based livelihoods.

He said Telangana has the potential to become a major hub for Mahua-based industries in India if proper planning, transparent implementation, and strong marketing systems are established.

Experts at the workshop highlighted the importance of linking natural forest resources with modern market demands and providing tribal communities with training in processing, branding, and value-added product manufacturing.

Special presentations were delivered by Janampalli Anirudh Reddy and Professor Venkata Ramaiah, showcasing successful Mahua livelihood models, value-added products, and international market opportunities.
