CityLightBuzz: Hyderabad, A shocking incident in Hyderabad, where a group allegedly demanded ₹50,000 in the name of transgender blessings at a housewarming ceremony and reportedly harassed and behaved indecently with family members, has created a stir.
Following the viral video of the victims, the Telangana DGP reportedly directed police officials to conduct a special statewide drive against forced collections, harassment and intimidation.
Police have warned that strict action will be taken against groups involved in threatening people at housewarming ceremonies, other auspicious functions and business establishments, with criminal cases being registered against those involved in unlawful extortion.
Authorities are also expected to distinguish between individuals genuinely belonging to the transgender community who live with dignity and those allegedly involved in criminal extortion and harassment, focusing enforcement specifically on illegal activities.
The crackdown aims to protect the public from intimidation while ensuring that law-abiding transgender persons are not unfairly targeted.
