BRS Leaders Allege Government Avoided Discussions on Public Issues and Election Promises
Hyderabad: BRS Legislative Council floor leader Sirikonda Madhusudhana Chary, along with MLCs Surabhi Vani Devi, Deshapathi Srinivas and L. Ramana, strongly criticised the Congress government at a press conference held at Telangana Bhavan, alleging that the recent Legislative Council proceedings exposed the government’s failures and lack of commitment to public issues.
Government Had No Commitment to Running the House: Madhusudhana Chary
Sirikonda Madhusudhana Chary alleged that the government lacked the commitment to conduct the Legislative Council proceedings in a meaningful manner and appeared to have convened the House primarily to meet its own requirements.
He claimed that there was no seriousness on the part of the government in discussing the implementation of election promises. According to him, the opposition submitted six adjournment motions over six days, but all of them were rejected.
He further alleged that the opposition proposed around 20 issues for discussion, but the government did not give them adequate consideration.
Heavy Police Deployment Questioned
Madhusudhana Chary, who has also served as Speaker, questioned the heavy deployment of police personnel around the Assembly premises.
He alleged that such a large police presence had not been witnessed even during the days of the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh. He also claimed that marshals were deployed inside the House and that opposition members faced restrictions.
He further alleged that the opposition was not given adequate visibility during live proceedings and that their questions were not properly addressed by the ministers.
Opposition Members Suspended
The BRS leader alleged that two of their members were suspended without adequate discussion and claimed that the suspension process was completed within a few minutes.He termed the action undemocratic and alleged that it undermined the dignity of the Legislative Council.
Madhusudhana Chary also alleged that decisions taken in the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) were not properly implemented during the proceedings.
Opposition Raises Questions Over 463-Page Bill
The BRS leaders also raised objections over the manner in which a 463-page bill was introduced for discussion.
They alleged that members were not given sufficient time to study the bill before the debate began. The opposition had demanded that the bill be referred to a Select Committee, but the government did not accept the demand, they claimed.
