CityLightBuzz: NIZAMABAD: Marking ten years of Telangana’s district reorganisation, which was undertaken under the leadership of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), BRS leaders and party workers participated in celebrations organised at Telangana Bhavan, the BRS district party office in Nizamabad, on October 11. The programme was held in response to the call given by BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR).
The event was presided over by former district party president and former MLA Aashannagari Jeevan Reddy. Former minister and Balkonda MLA Vemula Prashanth Reddy attended as the chief guest and addressed the gathering.
Prashanth Reddy Praises KCR’s Telangana Movement
Vemula Prashanth Reddy praised KCR for leading a relentless 14–15-year movement, uniting people across Telangana and achieving statehood despite numerous challenges and personal risks. He described KCR as a strategic leader who played a decisive role in the formation of Telangana.
During the programme, several leaders who actively participated in the Telangana movement were honoured. They included JAC leaders Chari of Armur, Gattu Eshwar of Bhimgal, Rahim of Balkonda, Ganesh Gupta of Kammarpally and Gnaneshwar of Velpur, along with other activists from across the district.
Families of Telangana movement martyrs were also honoured. Prashanth Reddy paid his respects to them and said that KTR had instructed party leaders and cadres to stand by the families and extend them continued support.
Ten Years of District Reorganisation
Prashanth Reddy said KCR had taken revolutionary steps to bring administration closer to the people during the BRS government’s tenure.
He stated that Telangana was reorganised from 10 districts into 33 districts, with more than 140 new mandals and 27 revenue divisions created to decentralise administration.
According to him, the establishment of district collectorates and mandal-level administrative centres helped people access government services more easily. Welfare schemes such as pensions, Rythu Bandhu and Kalyana Lakshmi reached beneficiaries across the state.
He described the ten-year period under the previous BRS government as a golden era for Telangana’s development and welfare.
Prashanth Reddy Accuses Congress of Power Crisis
Criticising the current Congress government, Prashanth Reddy alleged that Telangana had deteriorated under its administration.
He claimed that a lack of advance planning had led to coal supply shortages at thermal power plants, affecting electricity generation. Citing figures for power projects in Kothagudem, Bhadradri and Yadadri, he alleged that nearly 5,000 MW of power generation capacity had been affected by coal shortages. He further alleged that frequent power cuts in villages and towns were troubling residents and farmers, particularly those dependent on electricity for irrigation.
These allegations were made by the BRS leader during his address.
Questions Raised Over Paddy Procurement
Prashanth Reddy also criticised the Congress government over paddy procurement arrangements in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts.
He alleged that although the government had announced the opening of around 400 procurement centres, farmers lacked confidence in the system and were reluctant to bring their produce to the centres. According to him, farmers were turning to middlemen and rice millers because of delays in payments, uncertainty over procurement and deductions in the weight of paddy.
He contrasted the situation with the previous BRS government, claiming that payments were generally credited to farmers’ accounts within a week of selling their produce. He alleged that the current process could take several months and accused the government of failing to deliver the promised ₹500 bonus per quintal.
He said the reportedly inactive procurement centres reflected the government’s failure to provide adequate assurance to farmers.
Questions Over Implementation of Congress Guarantees
The Balkonda MLA accused the Congress government of failing to implement several electoral promises, including a monthly pension of ₹4,000, financial assistance of ₹2,500 per month for women, one tola of gold and a ₹500 paddy bonus.
He alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was making accusations against KCR, KTR and former minister T. Harish Rao to divert public attention from the government’s unfulfilled promises. Prashanth Reddy also challenged allegations concerning KCR’s agricultural land and KTR’s business interests. He maintained that the claims required proper scrutiny and said the business records relating to KTR’s service apartment ventures were transparent.
Prashanth Reddy Demands Investigation Into CM’s Family Assets
Prashanth Reddy raised questions about the assets and business interests of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s family and demanded a white paper explaining their sources.
He questioned the reported value of Hyundai showrooms associated with the Chief Minister’s wife, investments in an aerospace components business linked to his brother, the establishment of international schools and the reported valuation of Medicover Hospital interests.
He also recalled KTR’s demand for an investigation by a sitting Supreme Court judge into the assets of BRS leaders and the Chief Minister’s family. Prashanth Reddy questioned why the government had not acted on the demand and alleged that BRS leader Manne Krishank was being targeted through cases for raising questions about corruption.
These claims and allegations were made by Prashanth Reddy and were not independently established in the information provided.
Highlights of Nizamabad’s Development
Prashanth Reddy said several infrastructure projects had been undertaken in Nizamabad during the previous BRS government.
He listed the construction of Rythu Vedikas, Vaikunta Dhamams, dumping yards, cement-concrete roads and electrical substations in villages.
He recalled that a bypass road, which he said had been neglected for nearly two decades, was upgraded into a four-lane road at a cost of ₹12 crore during his tenure as Roads and Buildings Minister. He also cited the sanctioning of ₹93 crore for the Madhavanagar Road Over Bridge (ROB), stating that the state government contributed ₹63 crore while the Railways provided ₹30 crore.Other projects mentioned included an integrated collectorate building costing ₹50 crore, the Kala Bharathi auditorium costing ₹50 crore, an IT Hub established with KTR’s initiative, a National Academy of Construction (NAC) centre costing ₹10 crore, and urban beautification works.
He criticised the current government for allegedly failing to complete the remaining works and maintain roads and streetlights adequately.
BRS Confident of Political Comeback
Prashanth Reddy claimed that Telangana, which he said had ranked among the country’s leading states during KCR’s tenure, had fallen to 12th place under the current government.
Expressing confidence in the BRS’s political prospects, he claimed that internal surveys conducted by the Congress and BJP indicated that the BRS could win 70–80 per cent of the seats and return to power. These projections were presented as his assessment and were not independently verified.
He also condemned what he described as police harassment of BRS leaders and workers. Referring to his arrest in Hyderabad while attempting to visit the family of a person who died by suicide in Bhimgal, he termed the incident undemocratic.
He warned that the party would challenge alleged cases against its workers and urged BRS cadres not to lose confidence. He called on them to take the development and welfare initiatives undertaken during KCR’s tenure to people in every village.
BRS Leaders and Activists Attend
Former district party president Jeevan Reddy, former MLAs Bajireddy Goverdhan, Ganesh Gupta, V. G. Goud and Vittal Rao, along with Neethu Kiran, Bajireddy Jagan, former NUDA chairman Prabhakar, BRS leaders and workers from across the district, Telangana movement JAC leaders and families of martyrs attended the programme.
The event highlighted the BRS leadership’s emphasis on the tenth anniversary of Telangana’s district reorganisation, while also providing a platform for the party to criticise the Congress government’s performance and reiterate its commitment to the legacy of the Telangana movement.
