CityLightBuzz: Hyderabad: Telangana BJP State President N. Ramchander Rao called upon people to respect India’s traditional systems of medicine, particularly Ayurveda, and incorporate healthy Ayurvedic practices into their daily lives. He was speaking at a programme organised on the occasion of the 11th Ayurveda Day, being observed on September 23, 2026. The 2026 Ayurveda Day theme is “Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow.”
Ramchander Rao said that the Government of India has given greater attention to traditional systems of medicine through the AYUSH framework, covering Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy. He said greater emphasis is being placed on treatment as well as research and development in the AYUSH sector.
Referring to the growing international popularity of Yoga, he said the ancient practice associated with Maharshi Patanjali has gained worldwide acceptance. He recalled his visit to the University of Limerick in Ireland, where, according to his remarks, faculty members spoke about the
benefits they experienced through Yoga. He also highlighted the role of Indian diplomatic missions in promoting Yoga internationally.
Ramchander Rao said that different systems of medicine have their own areas of importance and should be approached with due respect. He highlighted the long-standing presence of traditional Indian medical knowledge and called for greater research into Ayurveda and other indigenous systems.
He stressed the importance of preventive healthcare, saying that maintaining good health and preventing illness should receive as much attention as treatment after a disease develops. He said Ayurveda is increasingly being viewed not only as a treatment system but also as a broader approach to healthy living.
The BJP state president also emphasised the importance of continuous scientific research and evidence-based
development in Ayurveda so that its knowledge and practices can be further studied and strengthened.
On the occasion, he recalled his earlier support for Ayurveda students who had been seeking an increase in their stipends. He said he had personally visited their campus and extended support to their demand. He welcomed the reported acceptance of the students’ demand by the state government and expressed hope that medical students and young professionals would contribute to taking Indian medical knowledge to greater heights.
The 11th Ayurveda Day is being observed nationwide and internationally on September 23 under the theme “Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow,” with a focus on evidence, research, innovation and community well-being.
