CityLightBuzz: Hyderabad, BJP MP Says Telangana Suffered Under Nizam and Razakar Rule for 13 More Months .BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dr. K. Laxman said Telangana could not celebrate India’s Independence on August 15, 1947, as the erstwhile Hyderabad State remained under the Nizam’s rule and Razakar atrocities for another 13 months.
Addressing a media conference at the BJP state office, Dr. Laxman said the younger generation should be made aware that Telangana was not immediately integrated into independent India after August 15, 1947.
He alleged that the Nizam wanted to keep Hyderabad separate from India or establish an Islamic state, while Razakars led by Qasim Razvi unleashed violence against the people. Recalling the Parakala incident, Dr. Laxman said nearly 90 patriots were killed when Razakars opened fire on people who had gathered to hoist the national flag. He described Parakala as the “Jallianwala Bagh of Telangana” and said the BJP has been commemorating the martyrs every year.
He also recalled the sacrifices of Ramji Gond, Chakali Ilamma, Komaram Bheem, Doddi Komuraiah, Swami Ramananda Tirtha, Vande Mataram Ramachandra Rao, Shoebullah Khan and Turrebaz Khan, saying their contribution should be remembered by future generations. Operation Polo and September 17
Dr. Laxman highlighted the role of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in the integration of Hyderabad State with India. He said Operation Polo began on September 13, 1948, and the Nizam’s forces surrendered on September 17, leading to Hyderabad’s integration into the Indian Union.
He questioned why September 17 is officially observed in parts of the erstwhile Hyderabad State now located in Maharashtra and Karnataka, while Telangana has not given the day the same recognition.
Dr. Laxman alleged that successive Congress and BRS governments avoided officially observing the day due to vote-bank politics and pressure from AIMIM.
Targeting the present Congress government and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, he alleged that the government was also failing to give adequate importance to Telangana Liberation Day.
BJP Promises Official Celebration
Dr. Laxman said the BJP had been fighting for recognition of Telangana Liberation Day for more than three decades. He said the Union Government has been officially conducting Telangana Liberation Day celebrations at Hyderabad Parade Grounds since 2022.
He stated that if the BJP comes to power in Telangana, the liberation struggle will be included in educational textbooks and September 17 will be officially celebrated by the state government.
He appealed to the people of Telangana to participate in the celebrations in large numbers and remember the sacrifices of those who fought against the Nizam and Razakar rule. The media conference was attended by Dr. Bura Narsaiah Goud, G.
