FLASH NEWS POLITICAL

Following a meeting with TBGKS representatives and elected representatives from the Singareni region at Telangana Bhavan, former Minister and BRS Legislature Party Deputy Floor Leader T. Harish Rao addressed the media and highlighted several issues concerning Singareni workers.
Harish Rao called upon workers and people from the Singareni region to make the “Singareni Karmika Garjana” a grand success. The massive public meeting will be held at Ramagundam on Wednesday, October 14, at 5 PM, demanding solutions to the problems faced by Singareni workers.
BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) will attend the meeting as the chief guest.
Major Demands Raised by BRS
Harish Rao alleged that Singareni has been facing serious problems since the Congress government came to power. He said that not only workers but also officials have been forced to come onto the roads and stage protests.
The key demands include:
Immediate declaration and distribution of Singareni profits to workers.
Conducting medical boards and providing dependent jobs to eligible candidates.
Immediate conduct of Singareni trade union elections.
Clearing pending payments and dues to Singareni.
Implementing the promises made in the Congress election manifesto.
He said that traditionally, Singareni profits are declared and the workers’ share is announced before the Dussehra festival. However, despite Dussehra approaching, the government has not yet declared the profits or clarified the workers’ share.
Harish Rao Questions Decline in Workers’ Profit Share
Harish Rao alleged that the Congress government has been “cheating Singareni workers” for the past two-and-a-half years.
He claimed that during the previous BRS government, workers received a 32% share of profits, while the Congress government distributed only 16% in its first year. He further alleged that the share declined to 12.5% in 2024–25.
According to Harish Rao, Singareni recorded profits of approximately ₹2,022 crore in 2022–23, ₹4,712 crore in 2023–24 and ₹6,394 crore in 2024–25. He alleged that the profit for the current year has not yet been declared and claimed that, according to information available to the BRS, it may not exceed ₹1,800 crore.
He questioned the reasons behind the alleged decline and blamed what he described as administrative failures, corruption and nepotism.
Singareni Production Under Question
Harish Rao said that while Singareni workers have continued to work hard, the company’s production has declined.
He cited an increase in output per man-shift from 6.39 tonnes to 7.56 tonnes, saying the figures demonstrate the efforts of the workers.
At the same time, he alleged that coal production declined from around 70 million tonnes in 2023–24 to 58 million tonnes in 2025–26, representing a reduction of approximately 12 million tonnes.
He questioned why coal production increased during the BRS government but declined after the Congress government came to power, and demanded an explanation from Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.
Harish Rao also levelled allegations regarding delays in opening mines, postponement of tenders, awarding contracts at higher prices and other administrative decisions. He alleged that these factors were contributing to Singareni’s financial difficulties.
Allegations Over Pending Payments and Borrowings
Harish Rao claimed that payments amounting to nearly ₹50,000 crore to Singareni are pending, including dues from government entities and GENCO.
He also questioned why the company was allegedly seeking additional borrowing of around ₹4,000 crore for expenses such as salaries while, according to him, substantial profits were being kept in bank accounts.
He said that during the ten-year BRS government, Singareni’s profits increased year after year and alleged that the situation changed after the Congress government assumed power.
GO 76 and Housing Rights for Workers
Another major issue raised by Harish Rao was GO 76, concerning housing rights for Singareni workers.
He said that the previous BRS government had introduced the order in 2019 with the objective of providing ownership rights over houses to workers. He alleged that around 30,000 houses in Singareni areas had been registered and handed over to workers.
However, he claimed that after the Congress government came to power, the order was put aside and several properties were included in the prohibited list, particularly in Mancherial.
Harish Rao demanded that the remaining eligible workers should immediately be granted ownership rights through sale deeds under GO 76.
Demand for Dependent Jobs
Harish Rao also demanded that medical boards be conducted regularly, as was done during the BRS government, to provide dependent employment to eligible Singareni workers’ families.
He claimed that during the tenure of KCR, 16,000 dependent jobs were provided, while examinations were conducted for another 4,000 candidates, taking the total number of beneficiaries to around 20,000.
He alleged that the Congress government has effectively imposed an undeclared ban on dependent employment.
Warning Against Singareni Privatisation
Harish Rao warned against any attempts to privatise Singareni and said that the BRS would not remain a silent spectator.
He stated that the party was preparing for a direct struggle over the issues affecting Singareni workers.
He also appealed to Union Minister for Coal G. Kishan Reddy to take steps to secure additional mines for Singareni and support the company’s future.
Harish Rao further raised allegations concerning discrepancies in coal stocks, claiming that around 40 lakh tonnes of coal were allegedly shown as available despite not being physically present. He demanded action from the Centre over the matter.
Appeal to Singareni Workers
Concluding his remarks, Harish Rao appealed to Singareni workers and people from all Singareni-region constituencies to participate in large numbers and make the Singareni Karmika Garjana at Ramagundam on October 14 a major success.
