HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court’s verdict in the case concerning Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender’s party defection sends a significant message for democracy and the spirit of the Constitution, said BRS senior leader and former Corporation Chairman Dr. Kethireddy Vasudeva Reddy.
He stated that elected representatives have a responsibility to respect the mandate given by the people under the party symbol on which they were elected. He called for an end to the political culture of switching parties for the sake of holding positions.
Dr. Kethireddy Vasudeva Reddy also demanded that decisions concerning other public representatives involved in party defections should be taken in accordance with the Constitution and the law. He said respecting the people’s mandate after elections is also an important democratic responsibility.
“The political culture of treating MLAs merely as numbers must come to an end. Governments should focus on strengthening the trust and confidence of the people,” Dr. Kethireddy Vasudeva Reddy said.
