CityLightBuzz: Hyderabad, September 9, 2026: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) said that his party delegation met Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Lok Bhavan and brought several issues concerning the State’s political and administrative situation to his attention.
KTR said the delegation first thanked the Governor for giving them an appointment and enquired about his health. He said the meeting was held on the directions of BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR).
According to KTR, the delegation briefed the Governor on what it described as the Congress government’s failure to fulfil its electoral promises and alleged shortcomings in governance. He said issues concerning farmers, unemployed youth, students and polytechnic students were brought to the Governor’s notice. The BRS leader also alleged that the government had failed to address several long-pending public grievances.
Allegations of Police Action Against BRS MLAs
KTR said the delegation presented photographs and other evidence regarding the alleged police action against BRS legislators during the opening day of the Assembly session. He alleged that BRS MLAs were prevented from entering the Assembly despite being elected representatives.
He particularly raised allegations concerning the treatment of women MLAs, including Sunitha Laxma Reddy and P. Sabitha Indra Reddy. KTR alleged that Sunitha Laxma Reddy’s saree was pulled during the confrontation. These allegations have also been reported by multiple outlets, while the police have disputed allegations of misconduct and said the incident would be examined through available video footage.
KTR alleged that BRS leaders were attacked and subsequently blamed for the confrontation. He said complaints against the police had been submitted but, according to the party, were not acted upon.
Allegations Over KCR’s Residence
KTR also alleged that Congress leaders and workers had attempted to target former Chief Minister KCR and raised concerns over what he described as a threat to KCR’s safety. He alleged that the Chief Minister was behind the developments and accused the ruling party of creating an atmosphere of political intimidation.
The BRS delegation also sought the Governor’s intervention over the restrictions placed on its legislators and other recent developments surrounding KCR’s residence. The Governor reportedly assured the delegation that the issues raised would be examined.
Criticism Over BRS MLAs’ Suspension
KTR further alleged that the government had little respect for the Constitution and the courts and questioned the suspension of BRS MLAs from the Assembly.
On Wednesday, more than 20 BRS MLAs, including KTR and T. Harish Rao, were suspended for the remainder of the Monsoon Session following disruptions in the House. KTR also criticised what he called the Congress government’s use of the “Dalit Speaker” issue for political purposes. At the same time, he said that the BRS had immense respect for Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, while accusing the Congress of politicising the matter.
Governor Assures Examination of Issues
KTR said the delegation requested an inquiry into the incidents that occurred both inside and outside the Assembly. According to him, the Governor assured the BRS leaders that the issues raised, including allegations concerning the conduct of police personnel and the treatment of women legislators, would be examined.
KTR said the BRS had already lodged complaints regarding allegedly manipulated AI-generated photographs and videos and warned that legal action would be pursued against those responsible for spreading what the party considers false material.
He added that if the BRS does not receive justice in Telangana, the party would approach national-level institutions, including the National Commission for Women and other appropriate authorities.
Overall, KTR said the BRS had approached the Governor seeking intervention on what it described as attacks on Opposition legislators, alleged police misconduct, restrictions on elected representatives and wider governance issues in Telangana
