CityLightBuzz: Hyderabad, The Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a protest over the ongoing controversy surrounding the rendition of “Vande Mataram” at the Congress headquarters during Independence Day celebrations.The BJP has accused Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge of showing disrespect to the national song and demanded that the Congress leadership immediately apologise to the people of the country. The controversy erupted after visuals from the August 15 event at the Congress headquarters were interpreted by BJP leaders as an attempt to interrupt or show disrespect during the rendition of the song. Congress has rejected the BJP’s interpretation, saying the incident has been misrepresented.
BJP Calls for Public Apology
The Telangana BJP said that “Vande Mataram” holds a special place in India’s freedom struggle, describing it as a song that inspired millions of Indians during the fight against British rule.
BJP leaders alleged that any perceived disrespect towards the national song amounts to an insult to the country’s national sentiment and demanded an unconditional apology from Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge. Similar demands have been raised by BJP leaders across the country, with complaints also being filed in connection with the controversy.Telangana BJP Intensifies Protest
The Telangana BJP and its youth wing have taken up the issue through protest programmes in Hyderabad. The Telangana BJYM reportedly protested against the Congress leaders, raising slogans and demanding an apology over what it described as disrespect towards Vande Mataram.
The BJP has also accused the Congress leadership of compromising national sentiment for political considerations and has described the controversy as an example of what it calls “vote-bank politics.” Political Row Escalates
The issue has now developed into a wider political confrontation between the BJP and Congress. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also criticised the Congress over the episode and demanded an apology, while Congress leaders have rejected the allegations and criticised the BJP’s interpretation of the incident.
The controversy has also led to police complaints against senior Congress leaders, further intensifying the political debate surrounding the national song and its place in public and political life.
BJP’s Stand.The Telangana BJP said it would continue to raise the issue and demanded that Congress leaders clarify their position and apologise to the people. The party maintained that national symbols and sentiments should remain above political considerations.
