BRS legislators and public representatives have urged the Telangana Police to take immediate and stringent legal action against those allegedly creating and circulating fake, morphed and AI-generated images and defamatory content targeting BRS leaders across social media and various digital platforms.
BRS MLAs Devir reddy Sudheer Reddy, Bandari Lakshma Reddy, Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, along with MLC Sirikonda Madhusudhana Chary, submitted a complaint on behalf of the BRS Legislature Party to Telangana DGP (Law & Order) Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat, IPS.
In their complaint, the BRS leaders alleged that fake digital content was deliberately being created and circulated to divert public attention from the alleged incidents of physical attacks and misbehaviour involving BRS women MLAs and other public representatives near the Telangana Assembly two days ago.
The BRS Legislature Party said that presenting fake or AI-generated images as genuine could spread misinformation among the public and seriously damage the reputation of elected representatives.
The legislators urged the Cyber Crime authorities to immediately identify and investigate fake, morphed and AI-generated images and social media posts. They called for the identification of individuals who created, uploaded and circulated such content and sought technical and forensic examination of the disputed images.
They also demanded that appropriate action be taken under applicable laws relating to cybercrime, defamation and the dissemination of false or misleading information.
The BRS leaders further requested authorities to preserve all relevant digital evidence, including account details, URLs, timestamps and metadata, to ensure a proper investigation. They called for steps to prevent the further circulation of allegedly fabricated content and to protect the dignity and reputation of elected representatives.
The BRS Legislature Party maintained that political differences cannot justify the creation or circulation of fabricated digital content targeting elected representatives.
In addition, the leaders requested strict legal action regarding the alleged conduct of police personnel during the incident near the Assembly, as well as against the concerned Congress leaders and workers, if found responsible under the law.
The BRS delegation urged the DGP to order an impartial and urgent investigation into the entire matter and take appropriate legal action against those found responsible.
