Hyderabad: In a significant initiative aimed at promoting environmentally responsible celebrations during Ganesh Chaturthi, the Bar Association at the High Court for the State of Telangana distributed eco-friendly clay Ganesh idols among its members.
The distribution programme was attended by Hon’ble Chief Justice Sri Aparesh Kumar Singh, who participated in the initiative at the Telangana High Court. The Bar Association President and Secretary, advocates, and GHMC Commissioner Sri R.V. Karnan, IAS, were also present on the occasion.
The initiative seeks to encourage people to choose natural clay idols instead of Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols, which can contribute to pollution and adversely affect water bodies during immersion. The campaign promotes responsible celebrations while highlighting the importance of protecting Hyderabad’s lakes, rivers and other natural water resources.
Speaking on the importance of the initiative, the Chief Justice highlighted the need for collective participation in eco-friendly festivities and encouraged sustainable practices during Ganesh Chaturthi. He also emphasised the importance of ensuring proper arrangements for idol
immersion to minimise environmental impact.
The initiative received appreciation and support from the Hon’ble Judges and members of the Bar, reflecting a shared commitment towards sustainable and environmentally conscious celebrations.
The message from the initiative is clear:
“Choose Matti Ganesha. Celebrate Responsibly. Protect Our Water Bodies.”
The campaign serves as a reminder that traditional celebrations can be enjoyed with devotion while also taking meaningful steps to safeguard the environment for future generations
