CityLightBuzz: Hyderabad August 26.2026, BJP Legislature Party Leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy has launched a strong attack on the Telangana Congress government, alleging large-scale irregularities and corruption in the implementation of the Bhu Bharati land administration system, particularly concerning the 22A prohibited lands list.
Speaking at a press conference at the BJP Telangana State Office, Maheshwar Reddy alleged that the Congress government had opened the door to what he described as a multi-thousand-crore land scam by using the 22A prohibited lands list.
He demanded that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy explain the alleged land transfers and “secret agreements” taking place in the state.
According to Maheshwar Reddy, some lands were being removed from the 22A prohibited list without proper justification, while new properties were allegedly being added. He accused those in power of misusing their authority for personal interests.
He further alleged that the government was denying the existence of any conspiracy and demanded that the identities of those responsible for the alleged irregularities be made public.
Allegations Against Revenue Minister
Maheshwar Reddy made serious allegations against Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, claiming that properties worth approximately ₹15,000 crore had been allegedly transferred illegally to companies linked to his alleged benamis and shell companies.
He alleged that using ministerial authority to benefit companies associated with a minister would constitute a serious conflict of interest and demanded a comprehensive investigation.
Criticising the Congress government, he said that Congress leaders had earlier strongly criticised alleged irregularities under the previous government’s Dharani land-record system but were now allegedly repeating similar practices under Bhu Bharati.
He used the phrase “Diamond Aarti for Ministers” to criticise what he described as the alleged misuse of the new land administration system for the benefit of those in power.
Maheshwar Reddy also referred to allegations reportedly made by some Congress MLAs regarding money allegedly being sent from Telangana to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi every month. He demanded that the government clarify these allegations.
Open Letter to Rahul Gandhi
Maheshwar Reddy said he had released an open letter to Rahul Gandhi in both English and Telugu regarding the alleged irregularities.
He called upon Rahul Gandhi to take responsibility for alleged wrongdoing under a Congress government in Telangana and said that merely carrying a copy of the Constitution was not enough.
He demanded the immediate release of a white paper comparing the 22A prohibited land lists before and after 2014, including details of properties added to and removed from the list.
The BJP leader also demanded a comprehensive investigation, including a forensic audit, into alleged illegal property transfers and transactions involving shell companies.
He called for either a CBI investigation or an inquiry by a sitting judge into the allegations and demanded the immediate removal of Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy from the Cabinet pending investigation.
BJP Announces Major Protests
Maheshwar Reddy said the BJP had decided to intensify its month-long campaign over the difficulties being faced by citizens whose properties have been included in the Bhu Bharati 22A prohibited lands list.
He announced that the BJP would organise large-scale protest programmes at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park, on September 5 and 6.
BJP MLAs, MPs and MLCs, along with people affected by the inclusion of their properties in the prohibited list, will participate in the protest hunger strikes.
He warned that if the Telangana government failed to respond and take concrete action on the 22A issue, the BJP would proceed with an “Assembly Siege” protest.
Maheshwar Reddy appealed to BJP workers across Telangana to participate in the protests in large numbers and stand with people affected by the alleged land-related irregularities.
The BJP leader reiterated that the party would continue its agitation until the government provides transparency on the Bhu Bharati 22A prohibited land list, addresses the grievances of affected property owners and orders an independent investigation into the allegations.
