Revanth Reddy has strongly condemned the Central Government’s reported decision to deny permission for his proposed visit to the United States, alleging that the move was politically motivated and could hamper Telangana’s efforts to attract investments and build international partnerships. Addressing the media at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat, the Chief Minister, along with Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, Ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Tummala Nageswara Rao, Danasari Anasuya Seethakka and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, and several MPs, MLCs and MLAs, expressed strong displeasure over the denial of clearance.
No Hidden Agenda Behind US Visit
Revanth Reddy said all details of the proposed US tour had been clearly communicated to the Ministry of External Affairs as part of the official clearance process.
“There are no secrets or ulterior motives behind this tour,” he said, asserting that the visit was planned entirely in the interest of Telangana’s development.
The Chief Minister alleged that denying permission for a tour aimed at attracting investments amounted to discrimination against Telangana and said the state government would formally convey its protest to the Centre.
US Tour Aimed at Attracting Investments
According to Revanth Reddy, the proposed US visit was primarily intended to promote Telangana as a global investment destination and extend invitations to investors, universities and technology institutions for the upcoming Invest Telangana Summit, scheduled to be held in Hyderabad in December.
The proposed engagements were expected to focus on:
Education and higher education
Sports and sports infrastructure
Technology and innovation
Investments and industrial development
International university partnerships
The Chief Minister said these efforts are part of the broader Telangana Rising 2047 vision to transform the state into a globally competitive economy.
CM Questions Different Treatment
Revanth Reddy questioned why permission was reportedly granted for investment-related foreign visits by chief ministers of other states, while his proposed US tour was denied. He referred to investment roadshows conducted under the Vibrant Gujarat initiative and questioned the different treatment allegedly given to Telangana.He also pointed out that permission had been granted for his recent UK visit, while clearance for the proposed US visit was subsequently denied.
Focus on Global University Partnerships
The Chief Minister said the proposed US visit was also aimed at establishing partnerships with leading international universities and bringing high-quality educational opportunities to Telangana.He noted that studying at reputed universities in the US and UK can be extremely expensive. While the Telangana government provides scholarships and support for students pursuing overseas education, he said bringing leading global universities to Hyderabad could create greater access to quality education within the state.
Positive Response from UK Institutions
Referring to his recent UK visit, Revanth Reddy said the Telangana delegation held discussions with institutions including Oxford University, the University of London and London Business School.
He said the discussions were held in a positive atmosphere and that some institutions had expressed interest in exploring short-term courses and academic collaborations in Telangana. The Chief Minister said agreements with some institutions are expected to be finalised soon.
Invest Telangana Summit Preparations
Revanth Reddy emphasised that invitations for the Invest Telangana Summit need to be extended several months in advance to give international institutions, investors and universities sufficient time to participate.
He said Telangana officials have already been tasked with reaching out to potential investors and institutions and extending invitations to the summit.
“No One Can Stop Telangana’s Development”
The Chief Minister reiterated that Telangana is pursuing a clear and systematic strategy to achieve the goals of Telangana Rising 2047, including the long-term ambition of building a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047.
He said political differences between the Centre and state governments should not obstruct development initiatives or investment opportunities.
The Telangana government also stated that the denial of permission for the Chief Minister’s proposed US visit would be raised during the upcoming Parliament sessions.Revanth Reddy maintained that Telangana would continue its efforts to attract global investments, strengthen international partnerships and create new opportunities in education, sports, technology and industry, regardless of the setback to the proposed US tour.
