CityLightBuzz: Hyderabad: EkChitra Art Gallery, founded by artist and curator Annapurna Madipadiga, has opened its expansive new gallery space in Hyderabad, creating a larger platform for exhibitions, multidisciplinary art, artist interactions and cultural programmes.Designed with flexible spaces and modern infrastructure, the new gallery can accommodate a wide range of artistic practices including painting, sculpture, textiles, ceramics, photography, printmaking, installations, mixed media and performances. The larger space will allow artists to present works on a bigger scale while giving curators greater flexibility in developing exhibitions.A major highlight of the new gallery is its permanent printmaking studio, which aims to encourage artists to explore printmaking through workshops, experimentation, learning and knowledge exchange.The new EkChitra also plans to host artist talks, workshops, screenings, performances, educational programmes and public conversations, bringing artists, designers, architects, researchers, collectors and cultural practitioners together under one roof.
Speaking about the expansion, Annapurna Madipadiga, Founder of EkChitra Art Gallery, said the gallery has grown through exhibitions, collaborations and conversations with artists and audiences. The new space, she said, has been created to accommodate larger exhibitions while also supporting workshops, performances, educational initiatives and new forms of engagement with art.
Opening Exhibition – Transition.The new gallery opens with “Transition: A Continuity to Change – An Ode to Identities in Flux,” featuring young artists from across India. The exhibition brings together works in textiles, sculpture, painting, ceramics and printmaking. The showcase explores themes of identity, tradition, cultural memory and transformation, while creating conversations between different artistic disciplines and contemporary practices.
Expanding Hyderabad’s Cultural Ecosystem
EkChitra’s new space reflects its evolution from a curatorial platform into a permanent cultural destination. The gallery is also developing initiatives such as Living Temple – Edition 2, Keerthanam and Baoli Art Sangam, which aim to connect contemporary art with heritage, architecture, culture, ecology and community engagement.With its expansive exhibition areas, permanent printmaking studio and multidisciplinary cultural programming, the new EkChitra Art Gallery is set to become an important addition to Hyderabad’s growing visual arts and cultural landscape.
