CityLightBuzz: Jangaon District, Telangana: Former Telangana Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao was arrested by the police during a protest demanding the release of irrigation water to the agricultural lands in Devaruppula and Kodakandla mandals of Jangaon district.
As part of the agitation, Errabelli Dayakar Rao undertook a “Canal March” (Kaluvabatta) to highlight the problems faced by farmers due to the lack of irrigation water. The protest reached Singaraajupalli village, where the former minister and his supporters staged a dharna demanding that water be released through the irrigation canal.The protesters alleged that farmers in the Devaruppula and Kodakandla areas are facing difficulties due to inadequate irrigation water supply and urged the authorities to immediately take steps to ensure water reaches the agricultural fields.
During the dharna, police intervened and took Errabelli Dayakar Rao into custody. He was subsequently shifted to the Devaruppula Police Station.
The arrest led to tension at the protest site as supporters and local party workers gathered in large numbers. The protesters continued to raise slogans demanding irrigation water for farmers and sought immediate action from the government.
The agitation has brought renewed attention to the irrigation water requirements of farmers in the Devaruppula and Kodakandla mandals, with the protesters demanding that the authorities resolve the issue at the earliest.
