CityLightBuzz: New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi met the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) at the Parliament Street Police Station and demanded that an FIR and Investigating Officer (I/O) number be issued in connection with a complaint filed by Sahil Lochav, who was injured during a protest at Jantar Mantar.Sahil Lochav, accompanied by his lawyers, submitted a written complaint to the Delhi Police on August 14. However, he alleged that the police neither provided an I/O number for the complaint nor issued an acknowledgement or receipt.
According to the complaint, the matter was brought to the attention of the concerned authorities again on August 17 through email and telephone. However, the complainant said that no I/O number or acknowledgement was provided even after the follow-up.Against this backdrop, Rahul Gandhi accompanied Sahil Lochav to the DCP’s office at Parliament Street Police Station and sought action on the complaint.Rahul Gandhi demanded that an Investigating Officer be appointed and that an I/O number be issued to formally track the complaint and investigation.
He also questioned why an FIR had not been registered by the Delhi Police despite the complaint allegedly relating to a cognizable offence, for which an FIR may be required under applicable law.Rahul Gandhi insisted that the Delhi Police register the FIR and provide the necessary I/O number so that the matter can be investigated and the injured complainant can receive justice.The Congress leader’s visit comes amid demands for accountability over the handling of complaints arising from the Jantar Mantar protest and the police response to the alleged incident.
