CityLightBuzz: Vikarabad: Former Vikarabad MLA Dr. Methuku Ananda alleged that democracy was being undermined inside the Telangana Assembly and strongly condemned the police action against BRS MLAs and MLCs.
As a mark of protest, a peaceful protest rally and Maha Dharna involving around 1,500 people were organised at the Mominpet Mandal headquarters in Vikarabad constituency. Dr. Methuku Ananda participated in the protest along with Gattu Ramachandra Rao.
‘Is This the Respect Given to Women?’ Speaking at the protest, Dr. Methuku Ananda alleged that BRS MLAs and MLCs wearing black T-shirts were stopped by police and arrested while attempting to enter the Assembly.
He strongly condemned the alleged treatment of former minister and MLA Sabitha Indra Reddy by the police near the Assembly. Dr. Ananda alleged that the police treated the woman MLA in an inhumane manner, claiming that she was allegedly pulled by her hair, held by the neck and dragged away. He questioned whether such treatment represented the respect being given to women by the Congress government.
He also condemned the alleged incident involving former minister Sunitha Laxma Reddy, claiming that her saree was pulled during the police action.
“This does not look like a House of Honour; it looks like a House of Kauravas,” Dr. Ananda remarked.
‘Why Stop Public Representatives From Raising Public Issues?’
Dr. Ananda questioned the government’s approach, saying that on one hand, leaders are being asked to attend the Assembly, while on the other, BRS public representatives are allegedly being prevented from entering the Assembly when they come to raise public issues.
He demanded strict action against those responsible for the alleged incidents of police personnel forcibly holding and dragging protesters and allegedly pushing them to the ground. He said complaints should be formally filed and appropriate action should be taken against the officials responsible.
Questions Government Promises
Dr. Ananda also questioned whether the Congress government had completely fulfilled even one of the promises made to SCs, STs, BCs and economically weaker sections among the upper castes.
He said the government should address the problems faced by weaker sections and fulfil its commitments to the people.
Demand to Resolve 22A Land Issues
The former MLA also raised the issue of lands included in the 22A prohibited properties list.
He alleged that some lands were included in the 22A list due to mistakes by officials and argued that the same authorities should be empowered to remove such properties through a simple correction process instead of forcing affected people to repeatedly approach government offices.
He condemned the difficulties allegedly being faced by landowners and demanded that the 22A land issue be resolved at the earliest.
Dr. Methuku Ananda said the BRS would continue its fight for the resolution of public issues and would keep raising the concerns of the people through democratic means.
