CityLightBuzz: Hyderabad, BC Gurukul students P. Gopika and Sangita were grandly felicitated for their outstanding performance as members of the Indian women’s lacrosse team, which won a bronze medal at the South East Coast Lacrosse Championship–2026 held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The students were congratulated for representing India at the international level and bringing recognition to the country, Telangana, and the BC Gurukul institutions. They were felicitated with shawls and honoured for their remarkable sporting achievement.As a gesture of encouragement, ₹25,000 cash prize was presented to each student, along with ₹1.76 lakh in financial assistance towards their travel expenses.The achievement of the Indian women’s team against strong international competition was described as a proud moment for Telangana. The participation and contribution of Gopika and Sangita highlighted the sporting potential of students from BC Gurukul institutions.
The government reiterated its commitment to supporting students who excel in sports and encouraging them to compete at national and international levels. It was stated that the government bears the expenses of students representing the state and country in major sporting competitions, providing them with the necessary financial support.Early Recognition of Talent
Gopika and Sangita joined BC Gurukul schools as early as the fifth grade, where their talent in lacrosse was identified and nurtured through specialised training.
The students have previously demonstrated their sporting abilities at various competitions. They won gold medals in the South Zone Championships held in Kurnool and Chennai and delivered impressive performances in competitions conducted in Agra and Jammu & Kashmir.
Their selection to the Indian women’s team for the international championship in Malaysia and the subsequent bronze-medal finish are being hailed as a significant milestone in their sporting journey.
The students were wished greater success in their future competitions and encouraged to continue striving for excellence at both national and international levels.
Lacrosse coaches Paramesh and Akash, along with Principal Srilatha, were also congratulated for their contribution to the students’ training and development.
The achievement of Gopika and Sangita serves as an inspiration to other BC Gurukul students and highlights the importance of identifying and nurturing sporting talent from an early age.
