CityLightBuzz: Hyderabad: HYDRA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath inspected the ongoing lake restoration works under the second phase of the city’s lake development programme on Saturday. The Commissioner visited Errakunta in Bachupally, Turkacheruvu in Nizampet and Kamuni Cheruvu in Moosapet and reviewed the progress of restoration works. He expressed satisfaction with the ongoing work and directed officials to undertake desilting of the lakes on a comprehensive scale.
Errakunta Development
During the visit to Errakunta, local residents highlighted the absence of proper drainage and stormwater connections between Errakunta and Katwa Kunta, resulting in stagnant sewage water in the GPR Layout.
Ranganath directed officials to take steps for constructing the required drainage channel and asked them to coordinate with the CMC Commissioner to resolve the issue. He said the drainage channels would also be essential for diverting sewage water once the lake is fully developed.
Temple Committees to Be Consulted
At Turkacheruvu in Nizampet, the Commissioner said several temples are located around the lake and steps would be taken to bring them together at a suitable location.He said a meeting would soon be held with representatives of the temple committees and local residents to discuss the proposal and work out an appropriate solution.The Commissioner also directed officials to ensure that stormwater from Turkacheruvu reaches Papaiah Kunta through a proper system. Measures will be taken to divert sewage away from the lake, including the proposed installation of a pipeline of around 1,200 metres.
Officials were also instructed to remove temporary sheds located within the Full Tank Level (FTL) limits of the lake.
Kamuni Cheruvu Inspected
Ranganath later inspected Kamuni Cheruvu in Moosapet and reviewed the restoration works. Local residents expressed happiness that the removal of sewage and foul-smelling water had reduced the mosquito problem in the area.
The Commissioner said that once the restoration works are completed, Kamuni Cheruvu would become a visually appealing and environmentally improved water body.
Residents Felicitate HYDRA Commissioner
Residents around Turkacheruvu appreciated the ongoing restoration works and said that around three metres of silt had been removed, while the diversion of sewage had helped eliminate the foul smell and mosquito menace.
