CityLightBuzz: Hyderabad: CPI(M) Polit Bureau member B.V. Raghavulu demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah apologize to the country’s youth over the alleged lathi charge and pellet firing on students during the ‘Chalo Parliament’ protest organized by youth and student organizations.
Addressing a press conference at the CPI(M) State Office in Hyderabad along with CPI(M) Telangana State Secretary John Wesley and Central Committee member T. Jyothi, Raghavulu described the police action against students as “unacceptable” and called for accountability.
He criticized the Central Government for allegedly avoiding discussion on the incidents in Parliament and questioned who ordered the use of force against students. Raghavulu also criticized Prime Minister Modi’s reported statement of “forgiving” the protesting students, saying it insulted their democratic struggle.
The CPI(M) leader alleged that Parliament sessions were being used to push pending legislation rather than discuss pressing public issues. He also accused the BJP-led NDA government of ignoring the concerns of students and youth.
Commenting on the Bihar by-election, Raghavulu said Prashant Kishor’s victory was a “slap in the face” for the BJP and reflected growing public dissatisfaction with the party’s policies. He added that the younger generation was increasingly rejecting divisive politics.
Raghavulu also criticized Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, questioning his silence on issues such as the NEET examination paper leak, which affected lakhs of students.
Speaking at the press conference, John Wesley stressed that education and healthcare should be provided free of cost to all citizens. He demanded a law to regulate fees charged by private and corporate educational institutions and called for strengthening government schools by filling vacant teacher posts and improving infrastructure.
He further urged the Telangana Government to recruit 20,000 police constables, provide house sites and housing for the poor, fulfill election promises, protect podu cultivators, and issue forest land rights to eligible farmers.
