Former Minister and Ponnala Foundation Chairman Ponnala Lakshmaiah said that photojournalists have the power to change the course of history, as every photograph they capture can become part of the historical record.
Ponnala Lakshmaiah visited the Best News Photographs Exhibition 2026, organised by the Telangana State Photojournalists’ Association at Desoddharaka Bhavan, Basheerbagh, Hyderabad, on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, he appreciated the Telangana photojournalists for displaying outstanding photographs that represent the true spirit and importance of photojournalism.
He said that photojournalism has become extremely important in today’s society, as it uses honest and powerful images to document real events, establish facts and expose injustice.
“We are living in a world filled with screens, social media and artificially generated images. In such an environment, photojournalists must serve as a clear and authentic mirror of reality,” he said.
He praised the efforts of the photographers for preserving important moments through their work and emphasised the role of photojournalism in maintaining a credible visual record of society and history.
