CityLightBuzz: Hyderabad, Telangana is moving towards the goal of becoming a hut-free state, with the government, industries and people working together to provide dignified housing to economically weaker sections, Revenue, Housing, Information & Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said.
The minister described the Indiramma Indlu housing scheme as a major initiative aimed at ensuring a dignified life, social security and self-respect for poor families.
Cement Available at ₹230 Per Bag
Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy held a meeting with representatives of cement manufacturing companies at the Secretariat on Tuesday to discuss the availability and pricing of cement required for the construction of Indiramma houses.
During the meeting, the minister appealed to cement manufacturers to reduce prices in support of the state government’s ambitious housing programme. The companies agreed to supply cement at a reduced price of ₹230 per bag.
Ponguleti welcomed the decision and thanked cement manufacturers for coming forward with a sense of social responsibility.
He expressed confidence that the goal of a “Telangana without huts” can be achieved if the government, industries and people work together.
4.50 Lakh Houses in First Phase
The minister said 4.50 lakh Indiramma houses were sanctioned in the first phase across Telangana, excluding Hyderabad. A significant number of houses have already been completed, while others are at various stages of construction.
In the second phase, the government has sanctioned 2.50 lakh houses, allocating 2,000 houses per Assembly constituency across the state.
One Lakh Houses in Greater Hyderabad
Ponguleti said the government has also initiated the construction of one lakh houses within the Greater Hyderabad region. As part of the initiative, Indiramma Towers are being taken up on a pilot basis in 16 constituencies.
He said Telangana is the only state in the country implementing a housing programme with 100% subsidy and financial assistance of ₹5 lakh per house, describing the initiative as a model for the rest of the country.
Funds Released Every Monday
The minister said that despite the financial burden on the state government, funds for the Indiramma housing programme are being released every Monday to ensure that construction work continues without interruption.
He reiterated that the government is committed to providing quality housing and improving the living standards of poor families across Telangana.
