CityLightBuzz: BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) launched a strong attack on the Congress government in Telangana, alleging that the state government was compromising Telangana’s interests on river water issues and other key matters.Speaking to the media at his Nandi Nagar residence, KTR said that nothing was more important than protecting Telangana’s rights over river waters. He demanded that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy clarify why the government had agreed to the agenda for the upcoming Godavari River Management Board (GRMB) meeting. KTR alleged that the proposed agenda was detrimental to Telangana’s interests and questioned whether the state government would attend the meeting and, if so, what position it would take on behalf of Telangana.
He said that if the Congress government was genuinely committed to protecting Telangana’s interests, it should boycott the meeting. KTR further alleged that the state government was acting under the influence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
BRS Will Fight for Telangana’s Water Rights
KTR warned that a major movement over Telangana’s water rights could emerge if the state’s interests continued to be compromised. He recalled the Telangana movement’s demand for water, funds and jobs, and said the BRS would not remain silent if Telangana’s share of river waters was affected.
KTR also criticised the appointment of Adityanath Das as an advisor, alleging that the appointment was against Telangana’s interests. He questioned why an advisor from outside the state was appointed when experienced engineers were available within Telangana.
KTR Targets Government Over Irrigation
KTR alleged that the government was failing to respond adequately to the water needs of farmers, particularly in the Palamuru region. He claimed that the government acted only after pressure from the opposition and farmers.
He also criticised the Congress government over irrigation projects and demanded clarity on proposals concerning projects in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
KTR accused the government of engaging in political allegations and “black magic politics” instead of focusing on farmers’ issues. He also questioned the government’s claims regarding 24-hour electricity supply to farmers and challenged officials to demonstrate where uninterrupted power was being provided.
HILT-P Policy Also Comes Under Fire
KTR also targeted the government over the HILT-P policy, alleging that public assets worth thousands of crores were being placed for sale.
He said that the BRS would scrap the policy if it returned to power and announced that the party would launch an action plan to create awareness among the public about the policy.
KTR alleged that placing people’s lands and properties on the prohibited list was being used to facilitate the acquisition of public assets and demanded greater transparency from the government.
KTR Criticises Government Over HYDRAA
KTR also strongly criticised the state government over the functioning of HYDRAA, referring to observations made by the High Court.
He alleged that the government’s handling of HYDRAA had raised serious concerns regarding governance and constitutional accountability. KTR said the government must respect the judiciary and comply with directions issued by the courts.
KTR maintained that the BRS would continue to raise issues concerning Telangana’s water rights, farmers, public assets and governance, and warned that the party would launch agitations whenever the state’s interests were threatened.
