CityLightBuzz: New Delhi,September 04.2026 Telangana Minister Captain N. Uttam Kumar Reddy met Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai in New Delhi and urged the Chhattisgarh government to issue an early No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the Sammakka Sagar Project.
During the meeting, Uttam Kumar Reddy sought cooperation from the Chhattisgarh government to facilitate the next stage of the project and enable Telangana to utilise the barrage to its intended capacity.
Telangana Assures Full Compensation
Uttam Kumar Reddy assured Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai that the Telangana government would provide full compensation for lands and houses in Chhattisgarh that may be affected by submergence due to the project.
The Minister emphasised that Telangana is committed to addressing the concerns of affected people and ensuring that appropriate compensation is provided for the land and properties impacted by the project.
NOC Crucial for Full-Scale Water Storage
The early issuance of the NOC is expected to help Telangana move forward with plans to store water at the full capacity of the Sammakka Sagar barrage.
Once the necessary clearances and coordination are completed, the project is expected to strengthen irrigation facilities and provide water benefits to lakhs of acres of agricultural land.
Focus on Irrigation and Regional Development
The Sammakka Sagar Project is considered an important irrigation infrastructure project for Telangana. Full utilisation of the project is expected to support agriculture and improve water availability for farming communities in the region.
The meeting between Uttam Kumar Reddy and Vishnu Deo Sai assumes significance as coordination between Telangana and Chhattisgarh is essential for resolving issues related to land submergence, compensation and the required NOC.
