Hyderabad: On the occasion of Telangana Liberation Day, the BJP Mahila Morcha organised a ‘Mahila Shakti Scooty Rally’ from the Bhagyalakshmi Temple near Charminar to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel statue near the Telangana Assembly.
Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy inaugurated the rally and participated in it by personally riding a bike alongside the women participants. After reaching the Assembly area, he paid floral tributes to the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Speaking on the occasion, Kishan Reddy strongly criticised the Congress and BRS governments, alleging that they have refrained from officially observing September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day due to fear of the MIM party and vote-bank politics.
Kishan Reddy recalled the courage of Telangana women who, according to him, fought against the oppressive Nizam regime and Razakar atrocities using traditional household implements such as rokali bandas and chilli powder. He said the people faced looting, violence and atrocities during the Nizam and Razakar rule.
He stated that following the intervention of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Hyderabad State was integrated into the Indian Union on September 17, allowing people to
celebrate freedom and hoist the national flag.
Kishan Reddy pointed out that Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations are officially organised in parts of present-day Karnataka and Maharashtra, which were part of the erstwhile Hyderabad State, while Telangana has not officially conducted similar celebrations at the state level.
He said that respecting the sacrifices of the martyrs and the aspirations of the people of Telangana, the Government of India has been officially organising Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations at Secunderabad Parade Grounds for the past several years.
He announced that this year’s celebrations will be held on September 17 at 8 AM at Secunderabad Parade Grounds, with the Vice President of India as the chief guest. The Vice President will pay tributes to the martyrs of the anti-Nizam struggle and address the gathering. Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the Governor of Telangana, Union Ministers, public representatives and senior officials are also expected to attend.
The celebrations will feature a Tri-Services military parade and performances
showcasing Telangana’s traditional cultural art forms. Kishan Reddy appealed to people from Hyderabad and across Telangana to participate in large numbers and honour the sacrifices of those who fought against the Nizam’s rule
