CityLightBuzz: London, August 21, 2026: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has invited the world-renowned University of Oxford to undertake large-scale education and research programmes in Telangana and explore opportunities for a long-term partnership with the state.
As part of the Telangana Rising delegation, the Chief Minister visited the historic University of Oxford in London on Friday and held detailed discussions with leading academics on opportunities for collaboration between Oxford and Telangana.
The discussions focused on providing world-class education, research and skill-development opportunities to Telangana’s youth and working professionals.
Revanth Reddy met Professor Maya Tudor of the Blavatnik School of Government and Professor Faisal Devji of Balliol College. During the meeting, the Chief Minister explained the Telangana Rising vision and outlined the state government’s plans to transform Hyderabad into a global education and knowledge hub.
The Chief Minister invited Oxford University to bring its executive education programmes, specialised research capabilities and academic expertise to Hyderabad. He also encouraged the university to explore establishing a centre in Hyderabad that could provide global-standard educational and research opportunities to students, young professionals and working professionals from Telangana.
CMO Adviser and Ex-Officio Special Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao participated in the meeting and made a detailed presentation on the opportunities available to foreign universities under the National Education Policy of the Government of India. He explained the opportunities and incentives available for international universities seeking to establish operations in Hyderabad and Telangana.
Professors Maya Tudor and Faisal Devji responded positively to the proposal and expressed interest in working with the Telangana government, particularly in areas involving education, research and skill development. They also expressed willingness to engage with the state’s youth and professional community.
The Telangana delegation invited representatives of Oxford University to participate in the Telangana Rising Global Summit, scheduled to be held in Hyderabad on December 7, 8 and 9, 2026. CM Visits Somerville College
Later, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy visited the historic Somerville College and paid his respects at the portrait of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who studied at the college.The portrait was gifted to Somerville College by Sonia Gandhi in 2002.
Discussions with GMR Group on Sports Infrastructure
The Chief Minister subsequently visited Utilita Bowl, operated by the GMR Group, and inspected its integrated sports facilities along with GMR Group Corporate Chairman Kiran Kumar Grandhi. The facility includes a golf course, infrastructure for various sporting activities and a hotel.
During his visit, Revanth Reddy held discussions with GMR representatives and the company’s global sports unit on developing world-class sports infrastructure in Telangana. He invited the GMR Group to explore investment opportunities in Telangana and partner with the state government in developing international-standard sports facilities. Later on Friday evening, the Chief Minister was scheduled to visit Emirates Stadium to watch the EPL match between current Premier League champions Arsenal and Coventry.
