CityLightBuzz: Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dr. Dasoju Sravan has demanded clarity from both the Telangana government and the Centre over the reported denial of permission for Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s proposed visit to the United States.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, Sravan alleged that the Union Ministry of External Affairs permitted the Chief Minister’s proposed visit to London but did not grant permission for the US leg of the tour. He described the development as an embarrassment to the Chief Minister and, according to him, to the people of Telangana. Sravan questioned why permission was reportedly denied and demanded that the Chief Minister and the Centre explain the reasons behind the decision.
Sravan Demands Details of US Tour
The BRS leader asked the state government to disclose the complete schedule of Revanth Reddy’s proposed US visit, including the people and organisations he intended to meet in Boston and New York. He questioned why the names of some proposed meetings were reportedly not included in the Chief Minister’s public schedule for August 27 and 28. Sravan said the government should clarify whether the proposed visit was intended to attract investments to Telangana or for any other purpose.
He also questioned who had invited the Chief Minister to the United States and what policy-related discussions or meetings were planned during the proposed tour.
Questions Over Proposed New York Meetings
Sravan referred to reports and speculation surrounding a possible meeting with New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, and asked why such a meeting, if planned, was not reflected in the official schedule.
He said there would be no objection to the Chief Minister meeting Mamdani, but questioned why details of such meetings were allegedly not being made public.
Sravan also asked whether the Chief Minister planned to meet business groups or investors and sought transparency regarding the purpose of the proposed visit.
Allegations Over Foreign Tour
The BRS MLC further raised questions over allegations being made by BJP leaders regarding the Chief Minister’s overseas activities and claims circulating about investments and cryptocurrency. He demanded that the government clarify the facts and provide evidence rather than allowing speculation to continue.
Sravan also questioned what policies the Chief Minister intended to study during proposed visits to universities and what information, if any, was being withheld from the public. He demanded that the Centre clearly explain why permission for the US visit was not granted in 2026 despite permission reportedly being granted for an earlier foreign visit in 2024.
Letter to External Affairs Ministry
Sravan announced that he would write to the Union Ministry of External Affairs seeking an explanation regarding the reported cancellation or denial of permission for Revanth Reddy’s US visit. He also questioned why BJP MPs were reportedly supporting the Chief Minister on the issue and demanded transparency from both the state and central governments.“If the Chief Minister has nothing to hide, he should explain what happened behind the cancellation of the proposed US visit and disclose the details of his proposed meetings,” Sravan said.He also drew a comparison with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s earlier criticism of BRS leaders over not disclosing details of their visits and questioned why the same standard should not apply to the Chief Minister’s foreign tours.
Former BC Commission member Upendra Chary and former corporation chairman Allipuram Venkateshwar Reddy also participated in the press conference.
