Errolla Srinivas Questions Revanth Reddy Government Over SC/ST Act and Dalit Welfare
Hyderabad: BRS leader and former SC/ST Commission Chairman Errolla Srinivas questioned Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy over the use of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in connection with the incident at former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s (KCR) residence.
Errolla Srinivas questioned how SC/ST Act cases could be registered against those who allegedly tried to prevent Congress workers from reaching KCR’s residence. He said the SC/ST Act should not be used for political purposes and maintained that KCR should be politically confronted directly rather than involving Dalits in political disputes.
He also questioned the government’s response to reported cases of caste discrimination, violence and atrocities against SC communities in different parts of Telangana, and raised concerns over the implementation of SC Sub-Plan funds and Dalit welfare schemes. Srinivas said the BRS would approach the National Commission for Scheduled Castes over the issue and demanded greater accountability from the government on matters concerning the Dalit community. He further stated that the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, enacted in 1989, was introduced to protect SC and ST communities from discrimination and atrocities, and stressed that its provisions should be implemented fairly and without political interference.
