CityLightBuzz: Bheemgal, September 5: BRS MLA and former minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy launched a strong attack on the Congress government, alleging that it had deceived students, unemployed youth and job seekers by failing to fulfil promises made during the elections.
Speaking as the chief guest at a Student and Unemployed Youth Conference organized by the BRS in Bheemgal town under the Balkonda Assembly constituency, Prashanth Reddy said the Congress government had failed to deliver on its promises even after completing 1,000 days in office.
A massive bike rally involving thousands of students and young men and women was held in Bheemgal ahead of the conference. Prashanth Reddy congratulated the youth and BRS cadres for the successful rally.
‘KCR Government Created More Employment Opportunities’
Prashanth Reddy highlighted what he described as the educational and employment initiatives undertaken during the previous BRS government.
He said two new government degree colleges and three government junior colleges were sanctioned in the Balkonda constituency during the previous 10-year BRS rule, bringing higher education opportunities closer to economically weaker students.
He also said free technical training and skill certification were provided to youth through NAC centres in Bheemgal and Mortad, while free coaching camps and study material were provided to unemployed candidates preparing for competitive examinations.
According to Prashanth Reddy, the previous BRS government received financial approval for 2,32,328 posts, issued notifications for 2,02,735 posts and successfully filled 1,60,083 government jobs. He said the recruitment process for another 42,652 posts had reached the written examination stage.
‘Revanth Government Filled Only 16,978 New Jobs’
Prashanth Reddy alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was making misleading claims about filling 70,000 jobs after coming to power.
Referring to a written reply reportedly given by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka to a question raised by BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) during the eighth Assembly session, Prashanth Reddy said the Congress government had issued 16 notifications for 31,798 posts, of which only 16,978 jobs had been filled through notifications issued by the Congress government.
He further claimed that out of the 67,763 posts being presented as filled by the government, 50,785 jobs were from recruitment processes initiated and completed by the previous BRS government.
Questions Congress Promises to Students and Youth
Prashanth Reddy displayed videos of Congress leaders’ election promises on an LED screen and questioned the government over their implementation.
He pointed to the promise of providing free electric scooters to every college-going girl, alleging that not a single student had received the promised benefit.
He also questioned the status of the ₹5 lakh Vidya Bharosa Card, which Congress leaders had promised as a bank guarantee to support students’ higher education and purchase of laptops and iPads.
Prashanth Reddy alleged that approximately ₹12,000 crore in fee reimbursement dues had remained pending for the past three academic years, causing difficulties for students and educational institutions.
He warned that continued non-payment could create serious problems for private educational institutions and affect the education of economically weaker students.
‘Where Is the ₹4,000 Unemployment Allowance?’
Prashanth Reddy also questioned the Congress government’s promise to provide ₹4,000 per month as unemployment assistance.
He alleged that unemployed youth had not received the promised assistance and claimed that, according to his calculation, the government owed ₹1.32 lakh to each eligible unemployed youth.
He also questioned the promise to establish a Telangana International School in every mandal and the financial assistance announced for students at different stages of education.
Demand to Withdraw GO 69
The BRS leader demanded the immediate withdrawal of GO 69, alleging that it could adversely affect the future opportunities of Polytechnic students.
He also criticized what he described as restrictions on students protesting for their rights and demanded that the government stop using force against student and unemployed youth protests.
Prashanth Reddy recalled Rahul Gandhi’s alleged promise at Ashok Nagar to provide two lakh jobs and expressed concern over police action against unemployed youth protesting for employment opportunities.
Criticism of Congress Government
Prashanth Reddy accused the Congress government of damaging Telangana’s projects, agriculture and power sector.
He claimed that Telangana had enjoyed uninterrupted power supply during the previous BRS government but alleged that power-related difficulties had resurfaced in rural areas and agricultural fields.
He also criticized the Congress government’s handling of the Kaleshwaram project, alleging that political vendetta was affecting the state’s water resources.
Prashanth Reddy further alleged that welfare and food standards in BC, SC and ST residential schools had deteriorated.
Taking a political jibe at Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, he alleged that the Telangana government was functioning under the direction of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
He also mocked Revanth Reddy as “Ribbon Reddy”, alleging that he was merely cutting ribbons for jobs, flyovers and other infrastructure projects initiated during the KCR government.
Youth Conference Adopts Key Resolutions
Thousands of students and youth attending the conference unanimously adopted several resolutions and demands, including:
- Issue notifications immediately for 6 lakh government jobs, as promised for the three-year period.
- Release an official Job Calendar immediately.
- Pay pending unemployment assistance of ₹1.32 lakh per eligible unemployed youth and continue the monthly ₹4,000 assistance.
- Implement legislation providing 75% reservation for local youth in private companies.
- Establish a Youth Commission and provide interest-free loans of up to ₹10 lakh for self-employment.
- Provide free electric scooters to female students and distribute ₹5 lakh Vidya Bharosa Cards to students.
- Immediately release the pending ₹12,000 crore fee reimbursement dues.
- Establish four new IIITs on the lines of Basara IIIT and fill vacant professor and lecturer posts in universities.
- Immediately withdraw GO 69, which the BRS alleges could adversely affect Polytechnic students.
The BRS leaders said the party would continue to raise the concerns of students, unemployed youth and job seekers and intensify its campaign against the Congress government if the demands were not addressed.
