CityLightBuzz: New Delhi: India has officially announced a 126-member contingent for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, scheduled to be held from July 23 to August 2, 2026, in Glasgow, Scotland. The streamlined edition of the Games will feature around 3,000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations, competing across 13 disciplines, including para-sports.
The Indian contingent comprises 77 men and 49 women, who will compete in nine sports disciplines, as several traditional events such as wrestling, badminton, hockey, table tennis, and cricket are not part of this edition. India’s campaign will be led by some of the country’s biggest sporting stars, including Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra in javelin throw, Olympic silver medalist Mirabai Chanu in weightlifting, Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain in boxing, long jumper Murali Sreeshankar, and ace swimmer Srihari Nataraj. These athletes are expected to spearhead India’s medal challenge in Glasgow. The Athletics squad is India’s largest, with 32 athletes, featuring Neeraj Chopra, Tejaswin Shankar, Parul Chaudhary, and Priyanka Goswami. Boxing will see a 14-member team, including Lovlina Borgohain, Preeti Pawar, and Narender Berwal, while Judo also has 14 competitors led by Tulika Maan and Yash Ghangas. The Weightlifting team consists of 12 athletes, with Mirabai Chanu and Bindiyarani Devi among the leading names. India will also field teams in Artistic Gymnastics (8 athletes), Lawn Bowls (6), Track Cycling (6), and Swimming (5).
In the para-sports category, India has named 11 para-athletes, 7 para powerlifters, 5 para swimmers, and a four-member 3×3 wheelchair basketball team, highlighting the country’sgrowing commitment to inclusive sports.
With a balanced mix of experienced champions and emerging talent, India will aim to build on its previous Commonwealth Games success and deliver another strong performance on the international stage. The nation’s hopes will largely rest on its star athletes as they strive to add more medals to India’s proud Commonwealth Games legacy.
